I'm an employer, how can I improve travel choices for my employees?

By creating a Travel Plan. A Travel Plan is a tailor made package of measures that encourage more sustainable travel choices. As an employer there are benefits to creating a travel plan, some of which are:

• increased productivity, by reducing congestion you reduce lost working time and the stress levels of employees;
• reduced absenteeism, by increasing active travel you can improve participating staff's health which in turn reduces rates of absence from sickness;
• reduced transport costs, by promoting use of video or teleconferencing, use of pool cars or cycling and walking;
• improved staff recruitment and retention, measures such as flexible working are attractive to employees;
• reduce the need for costly parking facilities, another saving;
• show your commitment to reducing our negative impact on the environment.

In addition to the travel choices mentioned above, employers can reduce the need for business travel or travel to and from work by promoting:

• flexible/compressed working hours;
• home working;
• tele/video conferencing;
• pool cars;
• employee travel vouchers;
• changing, showere and locker facilities for those choosing active modes of travel;
• a bike salary sacrifice scheme, enabling staff to save tax & NI on a new bike and equipment.
