Just select how you want to receive your messages – either by text or email, or both. Then you can pick which school or schools you want to get alerts from. You can register for alerts from as many schools as you need to. When you first register for the service you should receive a text message or email (depending on your alert preference) confirming your registration. If you don’t receive this message, please sign back into fifedirect and check that your details are correct.

To register for text or email alerts you must first have an account with fifedirect. If you haven’t already joined fifedirect, join the site now. Once you’ve got your fifedirect username and password make a note of them somewhere. You’ll need to use them to sign in again if you have to change your contact details, the schools that you’re registered for, or to cancel your alerts.

You only need to join fifedirect once to take advantage of the range of services on offer; facility alerts, school closure alerts and job alerts.

To set up your alerts, or to change your selections in the future, sign in to fifedirect. You’ll see a new menu called “My Options” on the left-hand side of the main homepage. Click on “Alert Services” and then “School Closure Alerts”.

Make sure you keep your mobile and email details up to date in your fifedirect account so that the alerts get to you! Go to the "My Options" menu and select "My Details".

Nurseries: At the moment only council-run nurseries are included in this service, but we are hoping that private nurseries will be able to join the scheme in the near future.

Please note: Fifedirect checks for new information from schools every 10 minutes and then processes the messages it needs to send to registered users. Often you receive your alert within 5 minutes of the head teacher closing a school, but it may take up to 20 minutes in extreme circumstances (e.g. where lots of schools are closing at the same time). If your text takes longer than this to arrive the delay will probably be due to your mobile network provider.
