Public and Community Transport
Good public transport is a key priority for Fife Council and our Transportation Services work closely with bus and train companies to maintain and develop a quality network of services and infrastructure throughout Fife.
Fife Council is responsible for bus stops and shelters and operates Dunfermline, Glenrothes, Kirkcaldy and Leven bus stations whilst Stagecoach operates the bus station at St Andrews. Most bus services are provided commercially i.e. by private companies for profit, with no input from the Council. However, the Council does spend over £4M each year subsidising some bus services where the commercial operators decide not to run services.
There are also various concessionary travel schemes such as, Dial-a-Ride, Ring & Ride, Blue Badge Parking Scheme, Shopmobility and the National Concession Scheme (myFife ‘bus pass’).
ScotRail operates most train services in Fife and manages all 19 railway stations whilst Network Rail is responsible for the track and infrastructure. East Coast and CrossCountry Trains also provide some train journeys.
