Welcome to Madras College
Madras College is a Six-Year Comprehensive School with a roll of nearly 1,263 pupils from the town of St Andrews and from the surrounding countryside. The school operates on two sites 1.5 miles apart.
The Kilrymont Road building, which accommodates S1, S2, S3 and a small Department of Additional Support, is situated on the south side of the town in a modern (1967) building with playing fields adjacent. S4, S5 and S6 pupils attend the South Street building, which is situated in the centre of town. It consists of the original 1833 College and two phases of more modern accommodation dating from the 1950s and 1960s. To cope with the increase in pupil numbers, six hut classrooms were added in 1995.
Timetabling is arranged to allow staff to travel between buildings on a regular basis so that all staff have the opportunity to experience the full range of classes, although not necessarily all of them in any one year. The pattern for travel varies to suit the needs of particular departments. In some departments staff may expect to travel daily, in others a rota system may operate with some staff being predominantly based in one or other building for a session, while others commute.
