Located on the ground floor of the tower block in the Auchterderran centre, the Schools Library Service is comprised of a small but friendly and helpful team. We provide support for pupils and teachers for all schools across Fife. This support takes the form of the Project Loans service, Book Groups for Kid’s and the Teachers collection. We hold a stock of more than 65,000 books carefully selected to support teaching of the curriculum and CPD.

Schools Library Service- Project Loans
In every academic year we put together over 4500 project boxes for use in schools.
Project boxes are tailored to meet your individual requests and provide resources for teachers to use in the classroom for up to a term

Each project collection contains up to 17 books.

For each project collection a request form will need to be filled in. An online version is available.
Project collections can be ordered at any time but, to enable us to share out stock and meet delivery schedules we encourage schools to place orders up to six months in advance.

Teacher’s collection
We have a well respected collection to support teaching staff in continuing professional development. The extensive range of books covers many popular topics such as Autism, Bullying, Dyslexia, Psychology etc as well as a small collection specifically covering the SQH. The collection can be viewed and used in the schools library service at Auchterderran.

Book groups for kid’s
These are Collections of books for after school reading groups. There are three different levels of books to cover differing ages and abilities

Schools Library Service – Deliveries
Collections are delivered to and collected from your school by the School Library Service delivery van. Requests received at short notice may miss the delivery schedule and instead can be delivered to the nearest local public library for collection or picked up in person from the Schools Library Service.

Public Library resources
Children can join their local library to gain access to the range of reading and information books, books on CD, cassette and in some branches MP3’s, for a range of ages. If they can’t find what they are looking for children can also request books from any of the branches in Fife for free. They will have access to computers, allowing them to search the internet and type up projects.

Some libraries have regular story times, reading groups and other after school activities.

All libraries welcome contact from their local schools and school visits can be arranged by contacting your local branch. Further details of library events, how to contact your nearest branch, access to the catalogue and how to join online, can all be found by following the links on FISH.
