Catchment Area and Roll

The school serves the mainly residential village of Auchtertool and an extensive surrounding rural area in central Fife. A few children are brought to the school by taxi. The school is part of Balwearie High School Area Group. The other primary schools in this Area Group are Kirkcaldy West, Dunnikier, Strathallan, Kinghorn and Burntisland.

Accommodation

The school consists of two one hundred year old buildings which have benefited from some refurbishment. They occupy a compact site set back from the main road and adjacent to the local recreation park which pupils can use in fine weather as an extension to the tarmac playground facilities. The school continues to work at acquiring a piece of land adjacent to the school for a school garden and environmental studies work. The playground has been enhanced with colourful planters full of flowers and part of Learning Out of Doors.  One building contains two classrooms currently occupied by classes and and small staff room. The lower building contains the school office. There is also a small school hall which is used for dining and for many other curricular activities.

Staffing and Class Organisation

There are two classes, P1/3, and P4/7.  The P4/7 is taught by a Teaching Headteacher for three days and for a two days each week, and as required, by a teacher supplied by the Regional Authority.  This releases the Headteacher for administration and other duties. Primary 1/3 is taught by a full time teacher.  A visiting teacher of learning support works in the school for one morning each week. A  specialist teacher of art visits the school every week.

An instructor in violin visits the school weekly.  Ancillary staff consist of 1 Support Assistant ,an Administrative Assistant and an Assistant Janitor. The school receives support from the Regional Psychological service and the medical services including a speech therapist. The school minister visits the pupils each week.

General

There is a newly established Parent Council which works hard to provide support for both school and parents. Pupils are represented through the Pupil Council which meets with the Head teacher to discuss issues relating to pupils.

The school clubs offer multi activity clubs, football, hockey and netball.

A residential programme at Ardroy Outdoor Centre is offered to Primary 7 pupils.

The school aim is to create an ethos where the school community develop the talents of all our pupils and provide the highest possible standard of education within a happy working environment.

Staff are always pleased to meet with parents who wish to discuss any aspect of our school.
