Springfield Primary School is a co-educational, non-denominational school located in the centre of the village of Springfield in the Howe of Fife.
The main school building comprises three sections. A traditional Victorian section contains a teacher resource centre, the school hall which is used for PE, drama, assemblies and concerts, and school dinners, and a P3/4/5 classroom. The middle section contains two large classrooms , an early level class (downstairs) and P6/7 (upstairs) and the staff facilities.
The schools newest extension to the building houses the new purpose built nursery room, admin areas, foyer, disabled toilet facilities and a General Purpose room which is used for Music lessons, Parent meetings etc.
The main entrance to the school can be accessed via the school playground, down the disabled ramp and down the side alleyway to the front door.
The playground area is on one main level with a slightly lower level for access to the school and nursery areas. The nursery has a small outdoor area which has a rubberised surface and a walled garden area.
Our curriculum is enhanced by visits from specialists in PE. Our P6 and P7 pupils also engage in learning German as a modern language. Pupils in P4-7 receive violin tuition on a weekly basis. We receive Learning Support one day each week.
As part of the Youth Music Initiative we offer a chance for pupils at P5 stage to gain experience of learning how to play the Violin with support from the Violin specialist. Pupils can also have the chance to play the violin through the music intructors tuition, depending on assessment in P3.
The Parent Council actively organises successful social and fundraising events throughout the school session and are active in working with the schools management to make improvements to the service we provide the public with. They meet once each term and a public forum meeting is also held termly.
An intitiative to develop more pupil involvememntin the organisation and running of school improvements has been developed which involves ALL children being organisaed into School Improvement Groups, or SIGS as they call them. These groups allow children to drive forward developments to make the school a better place for ALL. The main groups are; Pupil Council group, Playground development group, Rights Respecting Schools group and the Eco group.
Every two years a group of P6/7 children visit the Ardeonaig outdoor centre. Effective use of the local environment supports the wide curriculum offered in the school. The next trip will be in November 2012.
Our aim is to create a school ethos where pupils, parents and staff work together in partnership to provide the highest possible standard of education for all pupils. Parental involvement is always welcomed, strengthening the relationship between all at Springfield School.
The school prides itself in developing links with all of the community and has worked with local community groups to develop a community garden area in the old playground facility next to the playpark in the village. Now every year the children will be able to continue the development of this garden and we have made a promise to keep it going for at least ten years.
