Tayport Primary School is situated in the centre of Tayport and cannot be missed as it is set just off the B945, the main road running through the town.

The imposing Victorian frontage dates from 1875, with further sections dating from 1939. We are currently benefiting from an extensive and sympathetic refurbishment programme. This has included a new kitchen and the small hall in the main school being completely renovated. A lift has been installed which means that all floors in the school can now be easily accessed by everyone.   Our latest addition, a new sports hall, was completed in July 2013 and we are enjoying using this fantastic new space.  At present the older part of the school is being refurbished and the majority of this work should be completed by August 2014.

There is an extensive hard surfaced playground area to the rear of the School and a smaller hard surfaced area to the front of the school.  Our new project this year is to enhance our outdoor playground space.

We benefit from being able to use the extensive common grass area a short distance from the main school.  A variety of after school clubs have been led and organised by school staff and volunteers and we work very closely with our Active Schools Co-ordinator.  After school/lunchtime clubs this year include Science Club, Football Club, Homework Club, Singing Group and Running Club.  There is also a "Streetdance" Club running for children and adults on Tuesday evenings.  We take every advantage of opportunities for our children to experience different activities and this year these include rugby, football, cricket, golf, tennis and bowling.

Our nursery occupies a site about five minutes walk from the main school in premises that were originally the school’s Infant Department.  The nursery derives its name from the town’s original name of ‘Tayport, Ferryport-on-Craig’, reminding us of the time when the ferryboat was the only way to travel from Fife, across the River Tay, to Dundee.  In 1989 the building became a ‘stand alone’ Nursery School, while still continuing to have a close liaison with Tayport Primary School.  The Nursery became part of Tayport Primary School again in 2009.  The nursery building has one large classroom for children in their pre-school year and we are able to have 28 children in the morning session and 20 children in the afternoon session.  The children enjoy open access to the self contained and secure nursery garden to the rear of the building.  We have very good links with Tayport Playgroup, our partner provider for children from the age of approximately three years.  Our Nursery teacher’s remit includes leadership of both the Nursery and the Playgroup and she works with a team of three Early Years Officers and the Depute Headteacher in the main school.

We have a very popular "Under 3's and Babies" group who meet in the main school small hall every Thursday from 9 - 10.30am.

We benefit from a varied, rich and beautiful environment as we are situated on the Tay estuary, close to Tentsmuir Forest and the Fife Coastal Path and within easy reach of the city of Dundee.

The current school role is approximately 280, organised into 11 mainstream classes divided into single stream and composite classes.  The Headteacher has overall responsibility for the whole school, including the Nursery.  Our Depute Headteacher has a varied remit including day to day responsibility for leading the Nursery and Early Years team in the main school and a teaching remit in the main school of approximately 0.3FTE.  We currently have eleven full time class teachers, a Learning Support teacher for three days each week and a part-time non class contact teacher.  We benefit from a part-time School Support Assistant and six Pupil Support Assistants.  Specialist staff includes our PE teacher, brass instrumental teacher, drumming instructor, Speech and Language therapist and Teacher of the Deaf.

We have very close links with a variety of outside agencies who are in the school regularly to support our children to achieve their full potential.

Our Out of School Club offers breakfast, after school and holiday care and has continued to thrive over the Session.
