Local Community Safety Initiatives

As with other stations, the primary Community Safety activity in the Levenmouth and East Fife Area was the delivery of home fire safety checks in targeted zones in the station area.  More specific activity included:

Street:Football - This was a joint activity involving open-air football competitions at night at key locations in the area, aimed at local young people.  Ample opportunity was available to engage with young people and put forward fire safety and other safety messages while encouraging fun and healthy competition.  Local evidence indicated a marked reduction in anti-social behaviour during these times.

BLING - Blue Light in the Glen: Again a joint activity, this also gave the opportunity to communicate fire safety messages in a social situation, and is an extension of he successful Blue Light Discos held across Fife.

Progress is also being made in developing part of Methil Station to provide a community access facility aimed at bringing community groups into a Fire Service environment.

Towards the end of the year preparations were under way to hold a Station Open Day in June, giving another opportunity to engage with the public over fire safety in the community.
