Lochgelly High School opened as a six year, non denominational, community use, comprehensive school in August 1987 and serves the Benarty, Cardenden and Lochgelly areas. It has a fully integral Department of Special Education and it is now also designated as a New Community School.

The school has excellent modern facilities, is exceptionally well-resourced and has a committed and dedicated staff. Lochgelly High School seeks to provide education of the highest quality for all students in the school community in order to meet their educational, personal and social development needs and prepare them to make an effective contribution to society in their present and future lives.

Lochgelly High School has well developed positive links with the various primary schools in the area and with universities, colleges, employers and a variety of important external agencies. The curriculum offered is extremely wide-ranging at all levels from S1-S6. In the Senior School courses are offered at Access 3, Intermediate 1, Intermediate 2, Higher and Advanced Higher levels to ensure that progression routes are available to all.

The school has an excellent ethos and recognises the need to actively pursue the development of working partnerships between home and school if pupil success is to be maximised.

The SQA results for session 2010 - 2011 were exceptionally good and are a very visible result of the hard work and commitment of pupils, parents and staff.  We are proud of all our pupils' many achievements.

A full and varied range of Outdoor Pursuits and Extra-Curricular Activities is available to assist in the enrichment of pupils' educational experiences.

The school was awarded a National Curriculum award, was short listed for a Fife Council Excellence Award; was “highly commended” by the Scottish Schools Ethos Network and featured twice on national television for its emphasis on “Social Inclusion” and its Attentive Curriculum program.

The school has two pipe bands and were recently crowned the RSPBA “Champion of Champions” due to outstanding success in the Scottish, British, European, World and Council Championships.

The school were the Scottish winners of the Community Impact Award as part of the work with the Princes Trust for the development of a mountain bike skills track at the nearby Lochore Meadows Country Park.

The Young Engineers club within the school are currently Scottish Champions for the work in Formula 1 in Schools initiative with pupils recently having taken part in the world championship in Australia, Malaysia and London.
