Applying for approval

Some types of food businesses need to be approved by us as well as being registered. These include premises where meat is processed or prepared, manufacturers of meat, dairy, egg or fish products, some wholesalers, and cold stores.

Application Evaluation Process

We will inspect the premises to check they are suitable for the purpose.  Once we are satisfied approval will be granted.

Consent Apply?  

No, the business cannot operate before the licence is approved. It is in the public interest that we must process your application before it can be granted. If you have not heard from us within a reasonable period, please contact us. You can do this online or use the contact details below.

Failed Application Redress

If your application for approval is not granted please contact us in the first instance. Any Food Business Operator who is refused approval can appeal to the Sheriff Court.

Approval holder Redress

If you are unhappy with the conditions of your approval please contact us in the first instance. Any Food Business Operator who objects to a condition attached to an approval may appeal to the Sheriff Court.

If anyone wishes to complain about an approved food business, normally the first contact is made to Fife Council, you can do this online or using the contact details below.
