Beautiful Fife Awards 2018 Winners

Beautiful Fife Awards 2018 Winners

The annual Beautiful Fife awards ceremony was held last night (Wednesday 5th September 2018) to thank volunteers for their efforts keeping Fife looking beautiful!

Local communities gathered at the Rothes Halls with Provost of Fife Jim Leishman to be honoured in the Beautiful Fife Towns celebration.

The communities were judged earlier this summer and were assessed on horticultural achievement, environmental responsibility and community involvement. The fifty participating communities were each presented with their certificates and a number of other communities received discretionary awards. The overall category winners for 2018 are:

  • Best Wee Village - Kilconquhar
  • Best Small Village - Limekilns
  • Best Large Village – East Wemyss
  • Best Coastal Village - Aberdour
  • Best Coastal Town – St Andrews
  • Best Small Town - Inverkeithing
  • Best Medium Town - Cupar
  • Best Large Town - Kirkcaldy

Keith Jackson, Parks and Community Events Officer said: “The communities throughout Fife faced the unusual challenge this year of spectacularly warm weather and I have to take my hat off to their ability to ensure that their plants did not suffer and continued to flourish.

“Beautiful Fife is about so much more of course and it was refreshing to see how the communities engaged with young people and also concentrated on the biodiversity of their local areas. In my opinion they are all winners!”

As well as floral impact the communities are assessed on their environmental responsibility and overall community involvement.

Congratulating the winners Provost Leishman said: “Fife boasts many talented gardeners and, as ever, the standard from entrants this year was very high. Congratulations to all the winners for their enthusiasm, imagination and skill!”
