Almost 60,000 households will see a change to the day they receive recycling and waste collections, from the week commencing 17 September.

Fife council is urging residents in the West of Fife to check their new bin collection dates by visiting  www.fifedirect.org.uk/bincalendar

Most bin calendars in the West of Fife are changing, and the new collection calendars are now online, and are downloadable. The tagging of landfill bins informing residents about their new online collection calendar will start mid-August 2018. If your bin is tagged, then you need to go online to access your up-to-date electronic bin calendar.

Residents can find out which day their household waste and recycling bins will be collected by simply entering their postcode. Once you have selected your property, you can access/ download a copy of your calendar, or print it out.

As printed calendars are no longer delivered door-to-door, residents should also sign up for free bin calendar email alerts. When you sign up, you will receive an email before a new bin calendar is available, or if your bin collection day changes. Visit www.fifedirect.org.uk/bincalendar and sign-up for email alerts by entering your postcode and email address.

Not printing bin calendars saves Fife Council money and reduces the council’s environmental impact. If you do need a printed calendar then you can:

  • Print your bin calendar by entering your postcode above
  • Ask a friend or relative to print your calendar
  • Print a bin calendar at your local library at a cost of 25p.

Householders who need a bin calendar in an alternative format, such as braille, can continue to receive these by calling the Recycling Helpline on 03451 55 00 22.

The following areas will see changes to their collection days: Dunfermline, Kincardine, Rosyth, Dalgety Bay, Inverkeithing, Lochgelly, Cowdenbeath, Kelty, Aberdour and other West Fife villages.

Shaun Kenyon, Fife council's Team Manager Waste Operations, said:  "Fife Council collects over 250,000  bins every week, around 13,000,000 bins a year. The existing rounds have been in place for a number of years, and have so far remained unchanged through budget cuts and new housing developments. A growth in housing has led to pressure on some routes. The new collection routes allow capacity for future growth and ensure that local people continue to get a good service.

“We appreciate that changing the collection days may be an inconvenience in the short term, but the change will make the service more efficient, reducing travel time and make collection routes more streamlined.

“We encourage residents to look out for their bin tag and go online to get their new calendar, if their bin collection is changing. Residents can now access their easy-to-use online calendar via their phone, laptop, desktop or other mobile device anytime, anywhere. Residents should continue to put their bins out as normal until the changeover date.”

This will be followed by changes to East and Central Fife bin collections later this and early next year, respectively.

Households in West Fife may have longer than normal between bin collection days over this transition period. Excess waste for green and grey bins can be presented next to these bins for collection 17 - 28 September 2018, a maximum of two bags/bundles can be presented per uplift.

The content of green and grey recycling bins will change on the same date for West Fife, 17 September:

  • Polystyrene, plastic bags & films and plastic wrappers will not be able to go into the green bin, but should go into the blue bin.
  • Drinks and food cartons will be recycled in the green bin (NOT the grey bin).
  • A campaign will be run later in the year to support the changes to recycling.
