Fife Childcare Services Annual Report 2017

Archived news: published on Monday 05 Mar 2018 by Fife Council

Fife Childcare Services provides a variety of childcare services for babies, toddlers and school age children right across Fife.  At the end of a really busy year last year, we took some time to reflect on what we had achieved and so have published a review of the many aspects of our service.

With well over 200 dedicated staff Fife Childcare Services is the largest childcare provider in Fife, with approximately 2,500 children attending our crèches and out of school clubs each week.  Here are 55 out of school clubs from Tayport to Culross, with the largest clubs offering 88 childcare places per day.  We also serve rural areas such as Auchtermuchty, Saline, Wormit and similar where private providers may struggle to deliver.

Last year we were tasked with expanding the number of Breakfast Cafes in schools where we know that many families may be living on low incomes.  In conjunction with the Hospitality Services, Schools and other colleagues we helped create 33 new Breakfast Cafes which open just after 8am offering every child in school a healthy breakfast free of charge. We are now serving approximately 5,700 breakfasts each week and this number is growing.

Almost all of our services are registered childcare meaning that we are subject to inspection by the Care Inspectorate who grade the quality of each service. 96% of our services are graded 4 or higher – meaning that the care inspectorate believes that our services are Good, Very Good or Excellent.

Unless you have used our Mobile Crèche then you may be wondering what makes it mobile.  This small enthusiastic team pack up a van each morning and travel to different venues across Fife where they set up a crèche able to cater for babies and children while their parents attend parenting classes or community education classes.  The team then load everything back into the van and move on to the next venue – hence they are mobile!

Why not take a moment to read our reflection on 2017 and find out what other work we do.   You might be surprised.
