Construction work has started on the exciting new play park for Dunfermline’s Public Park.

The modern play equipment will be situated between the trees and grass to the east of the Bandstand and is set to cater for different ages.

One of the features of the new park will be a ‘moo tube’ – a talking tube installed under the ground that will have an end near the fibreglass cow sculptures. The cows, which have been installed thanks to the community council’s fundraising efforts, are set to be painted by local people and are a nod to the park’s history when cattle grazed in the park during World War II.

Convener of the City of Dunfermline Area Committee, Cllr Helen Law said: “We’re all keen to see these exciting plans become a reality for the Public Park. Fife Council has been working closely with the Central Dunfermline Community Council for some time to improve the park and new play equipment has understandably been a priority.

“The previous play equipment, which was installed in the 1980s, had reached the end of its life a few years ago and had to be removed. Through good partnership working we’re set to see a fantastic new £240k play park.”

The overall cost of the play park is just under £240k. It is funded by Fife Council along with a £10k contribution from the Carnegie Dunfermline Trust and over £1k of public donations.

The new play park should be ready to open by early November, weather dependant.
