St. John’s RC Primary School is #soaringtosuccess after its recent inspection.

A team from Education Scotland visited the school in December and found ‘ strong, positive relationships across the whole school community which has a notable and positive impact on children’s engagement in their learning.’

As a result they were able to highlight many strenghts of the school such as:

·         The very strong focus on pupil wellbeing across all aspects of school life.

·         The caring Catholic ethos which permeates across the school encouraging children to be engaged and motivated in their learning.

·         A staff team who work very well together with pupils, parents and across their cluster of schools.

·         The very strong leadership of the Headteacher who encourages very positive relationships with staff, parents and children.

Children at St. John’s were found to be confident and positive when speaking to inspectors about their learning and have opportunities to contribute to the life of the school and take on leadership roles.

The school was also praised for knowing their children and families well; for working well with partner agencies and helping to support and include all families in all aspects of school life.

Headteacher John Hutcheon said: ‘We are delighted and rightly proud of our inspection findings. We are particularly pleased that the very positive relationships between staff, pupils, parents and partner agencies have been highlighted and clearly contribute to our super children who are fully engaged, eager and happy in their learning.

‘Inspectors commented that it had been a privilege and pleasure working with

St. John’s school family and that we were in a very good position to continue to improve the experiences and outcomes for our young people and their families.

‘Of course, there is always room for improvement and we have been asked to develop our curriculum ensuring that it is relevant and meets the needs of our all pupils within our own unique setting.

‘We found this input from Education Scotland to be supportive and positive and we will continue to strive to improve the life chances for all our young people.’

Peter McNaughton, Head of Education, added: ‘As a Directorate, we are delighted that the hard work and commitment of the Headteacher and the whole staff team have been recognised by Education Scotland.  We look forward to working with the school as it moves forward confidently.’
