Nominate your local democracy hero!

Nominations are open for the first-ever National Democracy Awards.

The awards form part of National Democracy Week which is taking place between 2 and 8 July 2018.

National Democracy Week is week-long celebration of democracy in society; an opportunity to celebrate progress and champion future democratic participation in this historic Centenary year of Suffrage.

Head of democratic services, Linda Bissett, said: “Fife Council is pleased to be supporting National Democracy Week and these awards.

“Regardless of who we are or where we are from, we must work together to ensure that every member of society has an equal chance to participate in our democracy and to have their say.

“These awards will recognise individuals and organisations across the UK that are working hard to engage people in our democracy. Their work, particularly with under-represented groups, has the potential to help people understand their democratic rights and make their voices heard.

“If you know any individuals or organisations in Fife that are working hard to engage local people in our democracy make sure you nominate them for a Democracy Award!”

There are four award categories:

• Young Advocate of the Year Award

• Diversity Champion of the Year Award

• Changemaker of the Year Award

• Collaboration of the Year Award

The deadline for nominations is 27 May and the awards ceremony will take place during National Democracy Week.
