Fife Cycle Park is turning one – and we’d love it if you could join us for the celebration!
A community open day will take place on Friday 31st May between 2pm and 7pm. Activities, games and refreshments will all be free at this drop-in event to mark the cycle circuit’s first year.
Local cycling clubs and a Nordic roller ski team will be on hand to help people get the most out of the event, with free access to the circuit and equipment hire. And then afterwards, the Falkirk Wheelers will be taking part in a charity event for UNICEF at 7pm where everyone is invited to come along and join them in skating for the hour. This is part of a worldwide event where each time zone will skate between 7pm and 8pm - all wheel types (skates, scooters, wheelchairs, skateboards etc.) are welcome!
Cllr Judy Hamilton, Convener of the Council’s Community & Housing Services Committee said: “In its first year, Fife Cycle Park has firmly established itself within the local and national cycling communities. It is a training home to local clubs and regularly attracting high profile events and races such as the Scottish Cycling National Championships.
“Perhaps what’s most special about the circuit though is the people, young and old alike, that have discovered their love of cycling or regained their lost confidence here. Cyclists have enjoyed almost 12,000 sessions in the Park over the last year. The programme is growing all the time to encourage even more people, of all abilities, to make the most of this unique facility that Fife has to offer.
“Learning to ride a bike and become a confident cyclist is an opportunity that we think everyone should have access to. The long-term health and wellbeing benefits of regular physical activity are significant, and Fife Cycle Park is doing some outstanding work to remove the barriers to cycling and open the activity up to many more Fifers.
“This community open day is a great opportunity for people to come together, try out the cycling circuit and help us celebrate the fantastic new cycling community that has grown here.”
