From 13 February 2017, Fife Council will trial a change to the way it provides goods to Scottish Welfare Fund customers. The Council will acquire furniture and white goods from the new Reuse Consortium in addition to its current supplier, under the current Scotland Excel Framework.

The new Reuse Consortium is a national project led by Community Resources Network Scotland (CRNS). The consortium supports 24 of Scotland’s local authorities and is made up of 17 accredited reuse members, including Castle Furniture Project and Furniture Plus in Fife.

Members of the consortium offer high-quality, used furniture and white goods at affordable prices. The aim is to help Councils provide people in need with all the main household essentials; Things such as beds, sofas, tables and chairs, cookers, fridges and washing machines.

These goods are awarded to Fifers who most urgently need them, those who applied for a Crisis Grant or Community Care Grant. Each year, Fife Council receives an allocation from the Scottish Government to cover these Scottish Welfare Fund grants at a local level.

Since 2013, Fife Council has provided Scottish Welfare Fund customers with new furniture bought from and delivered by a supplier based outside of Fife. We will continue to use this supplier for beds, floorcoverings and other goods not available through reuse.
