Coaltown of Wemyss Primary School

Welcome to Coaltown of Wemyss Primary School!

Coaltown of Wemyss Primary School serves the communities of Coaltown of Wemyss and West Wemyss. Our villages benefit from a rich industrial, rural and maritime heritage.   The village of Coaltown of Wemyss was originally built to accommodate miners and their families.  West Wemyss and its harbour grew to have a key role in the exportation of coal from the local mines. There is no longer mining in the area and most residents commute to work outside the villages.  Both villages are conservation areas, situated in a rural landscape.  Fife Coastal Path runs along the coast at West Wemyss.

Coaltown of Wemyss Primary School was established in 1896.  Our school is a traditional stone built, single storey building with 4 rooms, a large office, gym hall, a library area and a resource room.  A new toilet block with cloakroom area and facilities for the disabled was completed early in 2005.

We also benefit from an outdoor classroom near West Wemyss harbour as well as a garden nearby the school building in Coaltown of Wemyss.

Levenmouth Academy is our associated high school.
