The creative industries sector in Scotland supports over 60,000 jobs and contributes £5 billion to the economy and has been recognised as a key sector for growth.
In Fife, the creative economy is a diverse sector including creative and cultural businesses and organisations, as well as individual/freelance artists and practitioners. The strongest sub-sectors of the area, in terms of volume of businesses/practitioners are the software and electronic publishing sector and the visual arts & crafts sectors. Writing and publishing is also a substantive sector within the area, with a wealth of designers and printers as well as local newspapers in the region.
New initiatives and resources to support the Creative Economy in Fife are currently being developed. A series of events will be held looking at key issues and challenges in the sector which will enable networking opportunities and support collaborative working. There will also be new opportunities for the promotion and marketing of services and products via Social Media channels.

'Create in Fife' supports the creative and cultural sector, by providing resources and information about local, national and international opportunities
The initiative aims to provide opportunities to:
- Increase promotions and marketing for creative businesses and practitioners
- Develop new partnerships and collaborative working
- Raise awareness of the work of the sector in Fife
Create in Fife Fund
The Create in Fife Fund was been launched to offer financial support to creative businesses in Fife. The management and administration of the fund will be delivered through Business Gateway Fife on behalf of Fife Council Economic Development.
The fund will offer a 50% contribution up to a maximum of £500 and will support the following areas:-
· Market development
· Web development
· Feasibility research
· Process and product development
· Trade exhibition attendance as an exhibitor although not travel costs
· E-commerce development
· Expert help consultancy contributions
· Capital equipment
· Premise refurbishment

Through the 'Create in Fife' programme creative businesses and practitioners will be able to:
- Keep up to date with the latest local, national and international opportunities by following 'Create in Fife' on Twitter or on Facebook
- Access an online resource to signpost you to relevant information, toolkits and opportunities
- Access training opportunities
- Apply for the ‘Create in Fife Fund’ (see above)
- Apply for the Craft & Visual Artists Opportunities Grant
The Opportunities Grant and ‘First and Next Steps’ support programmes for Craft and Visual Artists in Fife are be delivered as part of the Think Innovation Programme.
In partnership with Creative Scotland and Fife Council, Fife Cultural Trust and Fife Contemporary Art & Craft are managing these funds and support schemes.
The ‘Opportunities’ Grant is available to artists living or based in Fife to support projects with grants of up to £750 available. The scheme is also supporting three artists, over a 12 month period, with the ‘Next Steps’ and ‘First Steps’ programmes. These tailored support programmes will focus on personal, professional and creative development for the craft and visual artists and will include 1-1 mentoring. The bespoke programme is also likely to feature funding for research and travel, skills development and the creation of new work. One craft artist and one visual artist as well as one emerging artist will take part in the programme in this initial year.
