Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains how we use the information that we collect about you.

Fife Council uses the personal information provided by you to our partners Trusted Directory Services Limited in order to process your application to join the Fife Council Trusted Trader scheme.

The personal information we gather and use includes name, contact details and date of birth.

We also require information on criminal convictions.

We will use the information provided to check our complaints and intelligence databases, carry out open source checks and make enquiries with other organisations that may hold information on you such as Companies House, Police Scotland, trade associations and other organisations that you have told us you are a member of.

We share your information with Police Scotland and other local authorities.

We also provide your information to our suppliers to enable us to deliver this service.

We receive information about you from other local authorities and the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline.

We obtain information about you from publicly accessible sources such as Registers of Scotland and the voters roll.

By applying to join the scheme, we gather information about third parties relevant to your application.

Fife Council has an official authority to process your personal information for this purpose in order to ascertain suitability for scheme membership.

In the event that we did not request and use this information then it would not be possible to carry out our contractual functions and process your application.

The Council will not keep your information for longer than is necessary. In some instances the law sets the length of time information has to be kept. The Council has a retention schedule which sets out how long we hold different types of information. This can be found here. Fife Trusted Trader is a local business partnership scheme that aims to:

  • increase consumer confidence

  • help protect citizens from doorstep crime

  • promote good practice within local business

Businesses from any service other than the food industry can apply to join and the sign-up process is straight forward.

Scheme information

Fife Trusted Trader is the only trader scheme in Fife that is Council-backed, vetted by Trading Standards and supported by Police Scotland. It gives traders:

  • a higher profile and exposure

  • the ability to showcase official reviews and feedback

  • a webpage on the list of Trading Standards vetted traders

  • use of the Fife Trusted Trader logo on materials and vehicles.

 

The scheme administration is managed by Trusted Directory Services Ltd and supported by our Trading Standards service.
