Fife Trusted Trader scheme
This Privacy Notice explains how we use the information that we collect about you.
Fife Council uses the personal information provided by you to our partners Trusted Directory Services Limited in order to process your application to join the Fife Council Trusted Trader scheme.
The personal information we gather and use includes name, contact details and date of birth.
We also require information on criminal convictions.
We will use the information provided to check our complaints and intelligence databases, carry out open source checks and make enquiries with other organisations that may hold information on you such as Companies House, Police Scotland, trade associations and other organisations that you have told us you are a member of.
We share your information with Police Scotland and other local authorities.
We also provide your information to our suppliers to enable us to deliver this service.
We receive information about you from other local authorities and the Citizens Advice Consumer Helpline.
We obtain information about you from publicly accessible sources such as Registers of Scotland and the voters roll.
By applying to join the scheme, we gather information about third parties relevant to your application.
Fife Council has an official authority to process your personal information for this purpose in order to ascertain suitability for scheme membership.
In the event that we did not request and use this information then it would not be possible to carry out our contractual functions and process your application.
The Council will not keep your information for longer than is necessary. In some instances the law sets the length of time information has to be kept. The Council has a retention schedule which sets out how long we hold different types of information. This can be found here. Fife Trusted Trader scheme
Helping you find trusted, reliable local traders
Fife Trusted Trader is the only official Trading Standards vetted trader scheme in Fife. The scheme is backed by Fife Council and supported by Police Scotland.
All our members have been fully vetted by Trading Standards and have agreed to adhere to our code of practice. This includes a commitment to trade fairly within the requirements of the law. In the event of a complaint, our members will act promptly and effectively to try to resolve the issue, in accordance with the complaints and dispute resolution process.
Fife Trusted Trader is designed to:
- increase consumer confidence
- protecting citizens from doorstep crime
- promote and support good business practice.
Find a Fife Trusted Trader
Search the full directory of Fife Trusted Trader members (external link) online. Each member has their own page where you can read reviews from previous customers, some include images of previous jobs carried out by the member firm; links to their own website and social media pages; and give background information on the business.
Once you've selected the trader you want to employ, use the contact details provided or if required, you can use the e-form link to contact them direct from the website.
If you don't have online access, you can phone 01592 582710 where our partners at Trusted Directory Services Ltd will provide all the information you need to select the trader best suited to you.
Review a trader
Help support the scheme by reviewing the Trusted Trader (external link) you have used once your job is complete. Keeping the information up to date will help other customers in the selection process.

Join Fife Trusted Trader
Businesses from any service other than the food industry can apply to join online.
You can also phone 0333 444 0185, to apply to join or if you have any other membership enquiries.
Fife Trusted Trader is the only trader scheme in Fife that is Council-backed with members vetted by Trading Standards and is supported by Police Scotland. It gives our members:
- a higher profile and exposure
- the ability to showcase official reviews and feedback
- a webpage on the list of Trading Standards vetted traders
- use of the Fife Trusted Trader logo on materials and vehicles
The scheme administration is managed by Trusted Directory Services Ltd and supported by Fife Trading Standards.

Member firms are responsible for their work and Fife Council accepts no liability for work done. Customers are advised to satisfy themselves as to the suitability of any member they choose to use.
