Bin collection trials

We are have been trialling two new waste collection patterns - one in Markinch and Coaltown of Balgonie and another in Thornton and Stenton, Glenrothes. In response to customer feedback, recycling bins are were emptied more often. And, in a bid to cut landfill costs, your landfill bins are were emptied less often.

Bin trial update

All of the information gathered around the trials has been analysed and a report was prepared and presented to the Environment, Protective Services and Community Safety Committee on Thursday 11th of January for decision.

The report recommended that neither trial was rolled out across Fife and sought approval for the areas currently running the trial services be reverted back to a standard 4 bin service.

It also asked for the committees approval to implement four weekly brown (food & garden) bin collections over the winter (December to February) months across Fife from December 2018.

Both recommendations were approved by the committee.

Next steps

The trial areas have collection calendars that run up to the end of March 2018. It is proposed that the trials are stopped at this point with residents reverting back at a standard 4 bin service from w/c 2nd of April 2018.

All trial areas households will be delivered a newsletter outlining the outcomes of the trials along with revised collection dates in early March.
