Pay My Council Tax

There are many payment options available to you:

Direct Debit

Over 101,000 Fife residents now pay their council tax by Direct Debit. This is the simplest and most convenient way to pay.

You will have the added option of spreading the cost from April to March and paying:

  • weekly;
  • every 2 weeks; or
  • monthly (you can pay on the 1st or 15th of the month).

Pay Online

You can Pay online by entering your council tax account number and credit/debit card details. You can also make a payment by creating an account on FifeDirect to manage your council tax online. If you're already registered then sign in here.

Telephone payments

To make a payment by debit or credit card call our 24 hour automated line on 03451 55 00 55. You will need your council tax account number and debit/credit card details.

Mobile Pay

Use your mobile to pay your council tax by debit/credit card. You will need to Register to make a payment.

Digital or Online Personal Banking

Pay your council tax using your online banking system.

Enter the following sort code and account number.

  • Sort code:83-22-37
  • Account Number:00197596

You will also need your council tax account number.

Post Office

You can pay your bill at any post office by taking along your latest council tax bill.

Paypoint

You need your latest council tax bill to pay at any PayPoint. Find your nearest PayPoint outlet here www.paypoint.com/locator/ (links to an external website).

Postal Payments

Cheques should be crossed and made payable to 'Fife Council' and sent to:

Please make sure you write your council tax account number on the back of your cheque.

Paying Council Tax is not a matter of choice and the Council will take action if you do not pay or do not pay on time.

Fife Council has a Corporate Debt Policy which provides information and advice to customers. Therefore, we can help if you are experiencing problems with many debts owed to the Council.

If you have not paid the amount due and have not contacted us to make a payment arrangement then we will take further action to collect the total amount due:

Dealing With Debt

Paying Council Tax is not a matter of choice and Fife Council will take action if you do not pay or do not pay on time.

If you are experiencing problems paying or have fallen behind with your payments then please contact us immediately on 03451 55 11 55 so we can help get you back on track.

If you do not pay your instalments as they fall due Fife Council will issue you with reminder letters. Failure to pay the amount due or to contact us to make an arrangement will result in a 10% statutory penalty being applied. At this stage Fife Council will either take deductions from certain state benefits or the account will be passed to Sheriff Officers for collection. The Sheriff Officer can then enforce one of the diligences available to them such as an earnings or bank arrestment. Any associated legal fees with these actions are payable by you.

If you are experiencing financial difficulty whether it's budgeting advice or require urgent debt information then free, confidential, independent financial help and advice is available from Citizens Advice and Rights Fife, Money Advice Unit. They can be contacted by calling 03451 40 00 94 between 8:30 am and 4:00pm, Monday to Friday or by accessing www.carfweb.org. A range of information is also available at www.fifedirect.org.uk/benefits.
