A traineeship provides a route into a specific role which requires the trainee to achieve professional/occupational level qualifications.  The majority will last 3 years but could be between 2 and 4 years dependant on the required qualification.

Examples include:

  • a Trainee Accountant will work on-the-job whilst working towards their CIPFA (Chartered Institute of Public Finance & Accountancy) qualification and membership,
  • a Trainee HR Adviser towards their CIPD (Chartered Institute of Personnel & Development) qualification and membership,
  • a Trainee Estates Surveyor will pursue RICS (Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors) membership and accreditation as a Chartered Surveyor.

There are two routes available – Professional and Technical Traineeships.  For example, technical traineeships include Trainee Technician (Transportation & Environmental Services), Trainee Estates Technician, IT Technician.  Professional traineeships include Trainee Estates Surveyor and Trainee Accountant.
