Privacy Notice

This Privacy Notice explains how we use the information that we collect about you.

Fife Council Environmental Health (Public Protection) Team carry out the following statutory duties which require the collection of certain personal data:

  • Investigation of complaints and provision of advice about nuisance and public health
  • Responding to consultations from other council departments and external agencies
  • Carrying out duties under the Licensing Scotland Act 2005 as amended
  • Carry out inspections and investigations relating to animal disease, welfare and illegal animal imports
  • Licencing animal establishments
  • Investigation of contaminated land
  • Carrying out air quality monitoring
  • Carrying out duties under the Burials & Cremation (Scotland) Act 2016

The personal data we process consists of name, home and e-mail address, and telephone number.  When we process data from other services or agencies, such as licence applications, then we have access to dates of birth, medical information and criminal convictions.  We also have access to data provided by other council services which can contain sensitive personal data.

Information may be shared with the following recipients:

  • Crown Office Procurator Fiscal Service
  • Registrar of births, deaths and marriages
  • Police Scotland
  • Other Council Services directly related to our work
  • Social Services when there is a cause for concern
  • Scottish Environmental Protection Agency
  • Other local authorities
  • Animal and Plant Health Agency
  • Scottish Government
  • Scottish Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals

Personal data may come from the following publicly accessible sources:

  • The Electoral Roll
  • Registers of Scotland
  • Government animal movement databases.

Personal data may also come from:

  • Other council services
  • Other local authorities
  • Agencies external to the local authority
  • Service users

We require the personal data to fulfil our duties under relevant legislation. 

The Council will not keep your information for longer than is necessary. In some instances the law sets the length of time information has to be kept. The Council has a retention schedule which sets out how long we hold different types of information. This can be found here.
