Trusted Trader scheme

Doorstep selling

Buying goods or services in your home or on the doorstep can be convenient. Many traders who call at your door are honest and genuine. Some are not and can be extremely persuasive. Examples of bad practices associated with cold calling and doorstep selling include pressure selling, unfair contracts, over priced or substandard home maintenance or improvements, phoney consumer surveys and bogus charity collections.

For advice, contact the Citizens Advice consumer service.

Police Scotland offer advice via their Beat Doorstep Crime campaign.
