Permanent road signs

Fife Council install and maintain a number of road signs which carry out a variety of functions. These include providing drivers with directions to destinations and tourist attractions, giving safety information and conveying information about restrictions to drivers. Examples of these include:

  • Directional Signs
  • Triangular warning signs
  • Circular regulatory signs
  • Information Signs (usually blue in colour)
  • Brown Tourist signs

Installation of these signs is undertaken by Fife Council following an assessment. Continuous review of road signing is ongoing to ensure signs meet the needs of road users, whilst trying to minimise the amount of sign clutter on the network. All road signs must comply with the Traffic Signs Regulations and General Directions 2016.

If a sign is damaged and needs repaired, this can be reported using our online reporting tool which can be found here.
