Staying safe online

The internet is now part of everyday life. We use it to work, shop, play games and catch up with family and friends. Technology develops at an amazing speed, bringing more and more opportunities for the user. But it also brings some risks and can leave people vulnerable to fraud or abuse.

In Fife, we are focussing on five main areas of risk:

  1. Accessing inappropriate material
  2. Online scams
  3. Online gaming
  4. Social networking
  5. Mobile internet access and smart phones

These web pages provide advice on how to stay safe and secure when online.

The ‘SafetyNet 2’ booklet, and Easy Read SafetyNet booklets ‘Scams & Shopping’ and ‘Security & Sharing’ were created by the Adult Support & Protection Committee in partnership with Fife Community Safety Partnership.  They provide advice on some of the most common internet safety issues, plus links to useful websites and sources of support.
