Adults come to ABE:

  • To improve their job prospects
  • To learn how to access and update Universal Job Match
  • To cope with everyday reading, writing and number skills
  • To help their children
  • To work on IT skills
  • To improve their confidence
  • To gain qualifications
  • To improve budgeting skills and help deal with changes due to Universal Credit
  • To cope with the challenges of Dyslexia

Groups are small, with around 6 to 8 learners in each group.  You can work on the skills you need for life or for work, at your own pace, in a venue that is local to you.

Some quotes from existing learners:

“When I first started I had never touched a computer; now I use it to send my CV and fill in job application forms online.”

“ABE has helped me cope with the paperwork I need for my job. My supervisor has commented on the improvement in my writing and spelling when I hand in residents’ care plans.”

“I used to be hopeless with numbers but now I can work out the best deals for gas, electricity and offers in the supermarkets.  If only my old maths teacher could see me now!”

“I never thought I would ever have qualifications, but I do now, thanks to ABE. It has given me the confidence to look for a better job!”
