Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)

Cognitive behavioural therapy (CBT) is a talking therapy that can help employees manage their problems by changing the way they think and behave in a particular situation. CBT cannot remove people’s problems, but can help individuals deal with them in a more positive way by breaking down problems into smaller parts and providing strategies on how to change negative patterns to positive ones.

It is most commonly used to treat anxiety and depression, but can be useful for other mental and physical health problems too.

A clinical assessment is required to determine if this therapy would be beneficial, normally through a GP, counsellor or psychiatric nurse.

Referral Process for CBT

If an employee has been assessed as requiring CBT from a health professional and is on the NHS waiting list, a management referral through Time for Talking may be appropriate.  Discuss with your HR Business Partner.

All referrals for CBT made by line managers and are entirely confidential. It is essential that managers have consent from the employee prior to referring to Time for Talking.

Employees do not have to discuss or disclose the reason or nature of the referral, unless they wish to do so.

CBT Sessions

Sessions will be held by a fully qualified CBT practitioner, registered with The British Association for Behavioural & Cognitive Psychotherapies (BABCP). Appointments will normally be held Monday to Friday between 08.30 and 18.00 at a mutually agreeable location.

Each session lasts 60 mins and the cost to the Service per session is £63.  It is likely that an employee would require 4-6 sessions to complete the appropriate treatment.

The Service will be billed directly for mediation services. A PO number must be raised and payment made through ERP. The Supplier is Therapeutic Counselling Services Ltd.
