Speed limits

Traffic speed can be an issue all over the country. To tackle problems with excessive speed requires action from various groups to ensure safe travel in Fife.

Fife Council is one partner involved with tackling not only excessive speeds, but also in determining appropriate speed limits for given lengths of road. Fife Council assesses and sets local speed limits throughout Fife to ensure that traffic speed is reduced where required to ensure public safety, but less restrictive on routes where traffic flow is essential.

Police Scotland can undertake enforcement of speed limits throughout Fife and are also involved in education to ensure drivers are aware of the consequences of excessive speed. Any changes to local speed limits are made in conjunction with Police Scotland to ensure that restrictions are practical and enforceable.
