Educational support assessment

All children in Fife have their needs assessed in their school. If parents and teachers agree that specialist help is needed we have teams who can offer an appropriate level of support and we also have support centres for pupils who will benefit from spending time there.

The Pre-School Educational Home Visiting Service

The service is for you and your family if:

  • you are coping with a child who has a disability or long-term illness
  • you are worried about your child’s difficulties and find them hard to manage
  • you feel that his/her friends are making more progress than he/she is
  • you are concerned that he/she will have problems in nursery or school.

Our Pupil Support Service is part of a multi agency support team around young people who are experiencing significant challenges in their lives and aims to provide access to education for these pupils regardless of their personal circumstances. This includes supporting children who are 'looked after' and others for whom, inclusion in school and their communities can be problematic.

Educational psychologists and social workers can offer an assessment, advice and support to parents and teachers where there is a concern about the development, learning or behaviour of children.

Children and young people who have a disability are supported in a range of ways within both mainstream and special schools according to their assessed educational needs.

The sensory support service also support children and young people with a sensory loss, and their families, from the age of diagnosis through to school leaving age.

We also have specialists who work with school staff in an advisory and consultancy capacity to help pupils with an Autism Spectrum Disorder.

The Fife Assessment Centre for Communication through Technology (FACCT) provides a Fife-wide service to children and adults whose communication ability is limited due to a severe oral communication difficulty.
