Trading Standards

Trading Standards laws regulate the quantity, quality and safety of goods, requiring traders to trade fairly to encourage a level playing field and action is taken against traders who breach consumer and trading standards legislation.

Businesses can contact Trading Standards to get legal advice and support to ensure compliance with the law which includes advice on their legal obligations to ensure practices are improved.

Our qualified inspectors of weights and measures test weighing machines, petrol pumps and other measuring equipment used for trade.

Business advice is available from the Chartered Trading Standards Institute's Business Companion (external website - select 'Scotland' option) for comprehensive and up to date guidance.
