Building Standards and Public Safety

Building regulations are the minimum standard of construction you need to achieve if you are erecting, altering, extending, converting or demolishing a building.  A building warrant is the permission required before you start work, there is a maximum fine of £5,000 if you start work without a warrant.

Some simpler works do not require a building warrant, but the regulations still apply. Please check our Building Warrants and Completion Certificates page for more information.
