NPLQ National Pool Lifeguard Qualification

pool lifeguard Community Use secondary schools offer a large variety of swimming provision in each of the facilities that have swimming pools.

Various facilities offer the Pool Lifeguard award, normally crash courses during the school holiday periods.

The Pool Lifeguard award is internationally recognised and is incorporated on the Qualifications Framework at Level 2. The NPLQ is valid for 2 years from the date of issue and a further 20 hours of ongoing training and competency assessment must be completed before a lifeguard can renew their qualification prior to the expiry of their existing award.

The course comprises of physical training and theoretical classroom work, followed by a practical in-water and out-of-water assessment on the Lifeguard, Swimming Pools, Supervision, Intervention, Rescue, Emergency Action Plans, CPR, AED and First Aid.

Age Description 16 YEARS AND OVER
Course Level Introductory
Entry Requirements Candidates must be aged 16 at the start of the course.  A pre-assessment for the course to confirm confidence in deep water.  Swim 50 metres within 1 minute & swim 100 metres on front and back & tread water for 30 seconds.  Climb out unaided. Jump/dive in at deep end (1.6m).  Surface dive to bottom of deep end (1.6m) Strong Breast Stroke to enable casualty rescue

Equipment Required Please bring: swimwear, towel and t-shirt for the water work & casual clothing for the practical dry-side activities.
